Hello, and welcome to my blog!
I am Tyler Mansfield, a sports journalist, reporter and storyteller currently based in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I have over five years of experience covering both collegiate and high school sports. I have covered both Western Kentucky University athletics and Bowling Green-area preps ever since I was 15 years old.
I am a senior undergraduate journalism student at WKU with an expected graduation of May 2021. I currently serve as Managing Editor and Beat Reporter for InsideHilltopperSports.com on the Rivals.com/Yahoo! Sports network and am the Owner and Editor of SouthernKyPreps.com, a digital news outlet covering local high school sports in the Bowling Green area.
In addition to my current professional gigs, I’ve held previous positions at the WKU College Heights Herald, The Sporting Times, The News-Enterprise, Louisville Courier-Journal, Glasgow Daily Times and other news outlets.
I am a hardworking, self-driven journalist who strives to do my best work each and every day. I thoroughly enjoy what I do and am excited to see where this career path takes me.
I have always admired both sports and writing and decided to put the two enjoyments together at the age of 13. I was attending a men’s basketball game at WKU, and I had just signed up for a Twitter account to follow the reporters that covered the team so I could follow their tweets during games and read their articles.
Well, after that game, I decided to come home, sit down at my desk, fire up my laptop and just write about the game – call it a recap, if you will. Now, it wasn’t the best thing you’ve ever read, but I wrote it, and continued to write about every single game – both home and away – and ultimately launched my own blog and by the age of 15 had 500 daily visitors and was a credentialed member of the media.
My advice to everyone out there: Follow your dreams.
